Wood of the witches

Knarly trees on rocky ground,
ferns and lichens all around.
Obscure and spooky atmosphere
arousing interest … and fear.
Silence and a sense of threat combine,
running shivers down my spine.

Behind each tree a witch may hide,
popping up on either side,
gesturing and lisping spells
I can hear their whispers, almost smell...
my imagination has run wild
I’m fantasizing like a child.

For knarly trees is all I see.
Just ferns and rocks surrounding me.
It is this creepy atmosphere
preventing me from thinking clear
and causing this uneasy mood.
It’s what it does, the Wistman’s Wood.
