
It was a true frog party last Tuesday. Early March, over 15º C and all the male moorfrogs had gathered in two pools, the same pools as each year. Until the first raindrops fell, around noon, the males were in beautiful blue mating attire. I have never seen so many moor frogs together, and never seen them of a colour so deep blue! It was amazing to see that blue vanishing like snow in the sun, the very instant that the rain showers and clouds took over. A very special moment. I was thankful to be able to witness this spectacle!
Just two pools in this area of the moor. Filled with hudreds of lavender-blue male moorfrogs and only a handful of chocolate-brown females. You can imagine what happens when one of these females passes by...
